Kein Neonazitreffen am 20. April in Sofia und anderswo!

16. April 2019

No Neo-Nazis meeting on April 20th in Sofia and elsewhere!

The Association of Persecutes of the Nazi Regime – Federation of Antifascists (VVN-BdA) protests against a so far secret meeting of European Neo-Nazis on 20th of April in Sofia and demands a more intensive fight against racism, anti-Semitism and fascism.

Adolf Hitler’s birthday, the 20th of April, enjoys a high status among confessing neo-Nazis. Various neo-fascist groups have tried again and again to use April 20 in the sense of their inhuman ideology. Usually on this day – not only in Germany – there are racist attacks, birthday celebrations for Adolf Hitler or torchlight marches of right-wing organizations. Now befriended Bulgarian anti-fascists have drawn our attention to the fact that on 20th of April a meeting of European Neo-Nazis is supposed to take place in Sofia – among them the party „Die Rechte“.

Florian Gutsche, Federal Spokesman of the VVN-BdA, also pointed out the special historical significance of the place: „It is particularly bitter that such meetings of European neo-Nazis take place in Bulgaria. After all, it was the Bulgarian society that rebelled against the deportation of Bulgarian Jews organized by the German occupying forces and thus saved the lives of about 48,000 people. The fact that neo-Nazis from all over Europe can now come together in Sofia for the second time this year is therefore all the more outrageous.

As with the Lukov March, Bulgarian, Hungarian, French, Polish, Czech and German neo-Nazis will meet in the centre of the Bulgarian capital. The chosen date stands for the ideological conviction of all participants. Racism and fascist extermination rage find their expression in it. It can be assumed that the meeting in Sofia is not only symbolic for the neo-fascist parties. It also serves to expand and deepen existing networks and contacts. All organizations share the ideological basis of the murderers of Christchurch (New Zealand), Andreas Breivik or the NSU (German neo-nazi terror group called „nationalsocialist underground“). Not only behind closed doors „Die echte“ and others legitimize their inhuman deeds and praise the fascist war of annihilation.

We protest against this and other meetings of European neo-Nazis because they contribute to a normalization of fascist positions in European societies. In the sense of the oath of Buchenwald the VVN-BdA stands for a new, solidary world of peace and freedom at the side of the Bulgarian anti-fascists and demands a ban of fascist events in Sofia and elsewhere.
